Bayou Bourbon Green Beans

There's just something about fresh vegetables right from the garden. They always taste a little sweeter, a little crisper and a little brighter ... with summer flavors that burst on your tongue. 

Mind you, our scrap of a garden is pretty tiny. There's just enough space for a few tomato plants and the scraggly herbs that I haven't managed to kill QUITE yet (despite some serious neglect). But our local farmers' market is now in full swing, and it's been an amazing place to get everything that we can't grow ourselves. 

My latest favorite? Green beans! This summertime staple pairs beautifully with everything from chicken to steak to pasta, and our Bayou Bourbon™ Glaze is a wonderful way to give plain beans some serious sweet and smoky flair.

Bayou Bourbon Green Beans

Ingredients

  • 1½ pounds fresh green beans, trimmed
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • ¼ cup (or 1 Dinner Mixer Container) Bayou Bourbon Glaze
  • ½ cup sliced almonds, optional

Directions

  1. In large saucepan with cover, bring about 1 inch of water to a boil. Add green beans; cover and cook 5-7 minutes. Drain; rinse with cold water or place in a bowl of ice and water. Drain well.
  2. In large skillet, melt butter over medium-high heat. Add green beans, tossing to coat.
  3. Drizze with Bayou Bourbon™ Glaze; sauté 2-4 minutes or until warmed through. Salt and pepper as desired. Garnish with sliced almonds before serving, if desired.

Makes 6 servings.

Tips and Hints

  • Want to taste your almonds? Put them in your dry skillet over medium heat, stirring frequently. (Then set them aside before you melt your butter for your beans - no need to dirty any extra dishes!) Toasting them will add more intense flavor and crunch.
  • Feel free to substitute olive oil in place of butter if you prefer.
  • Toss in 4 slices crumbled bacon or ½ cup chopped pancetta for extra sweet and salty flavor. Yum!
