Go Fish Snack Mix

Do you ever need a snack in a hurry? I do! ALL THE TIME. We have several kids and the school-agers have sports, activities, school presentatinos and field trips. You'd think that it would slow down in the summer, but I really think it becomes busier. With everything we're up to and all the running around, we're constantly needing snacks - either for them at their events or for the rest of our family while we watch.

Sometimes I get tired of the same old same old snack mix, crackers or cereal snacks. And I also really like to make food for our kids so I know exactly what's in it. The problem I run into: we usually find out we need snacks at the last minute. That makes it very difficult to be prepared. With this recipe from the Campfire Cookout Menu, it was Tastefully Simple to the rescue! Not only do our Holiday Fun collections come with delicious products, they have great ideas for entertaining. Many of the recipes double for awesome snacks for all of your family events!

I happened to have everything I needed to make this recipe. After all, cereal, fish crackers and pretzels are staple foods in our home. (I'm sure all you moms out there can relate.) Add a little bit of Tastefully Simple and your turn a bland mix of cereal and crackers into something phenomenal. It made so much, we were able to share and it lasted us several days of activities so I didn't have to go out looking for more snacks that week!

Enjoy!

Ingredients

  • ½ cup Sweet Mustard Moppin'™ Sauce
  • 2 tsp. Everyday Grillin'™ Seasoning
  • ¼ cup (½ stick) butter, melted
  • 3 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 3 cups oven-toasted corn cereal (such as Corn Chex™)
  • 2 cups baked Cheddar fish-shaped crackers
  • 3 cups pretzel sticks
  • 2 cups dry-roasted peanuts

Directions

Combine first 4 ingredients; pour over remaining ingredients in a large ungreased slow cooker. Toss to coat. Cook, uncovered, on high for 2 hours and 15 minutes or until crunchy, stirring well every 30 minutes.

Tips and Hints

  • For crunchier snack mix, preheat oven to 250° and bake in a roasting pan or on a baking sheet with sides for about 90 minutes or until the mixture starts to brown slightly. Stir every 15 minutes. Cool completely and place in a resealable plastic bag or individual snack bags.
  • If you don't have all the right ingredients on hand, don't worry! Pretzel twists are just as good; try different cereals like cheerios; almonds or cashews would make a great addition; throw in some bagel chips or other small crackers to mix it up! Just keep the measurements close.
  • Next time I do this, I'll have even easier clean up. I'm going to use a slow-cooker liner. They're very large so I'm thinking the mix could be spread out in the liner to cool. Then I'll use the crock pot liner as my bag to transport. Doesn't get any easier than that!
