Grilled Banana Split

I'm always looking for fun things to do with my kiddos on warm summer nights. We enjoy grilling late or having a small fire many nights. Not that you ever really get sick of s'mores, but sometimes it's fun to change it up a bit. 

I've heard how delicious grilled banana splits are, so I decided to give it a whirl. Of course, our banana splits didn't have the classic flavors. We enjoy chocolate, caramel, peanuts, etc. You can use whatever toppings you'd like or even change up your ice cream flavor to introduce some extra flavors without extra toppings. 

It also makes an awesome camping or cabin treat - easy to transport and wrapped in campfire-friendly foil!

Grilled Banana Split

Ingredients

Directions

Invert brownies to get them out of the pan; cube into ½" to 1" pieces. Slice banana peel lengthwise to open. Drizzle Creamy Caramel Sauce inside and place brownie cubes on top. Wrap in foil and place on grill or cool portion of a campfire. Cook at about 300°-350° for about 10 minutes. Remove from grill or fire. Open foil packets. Place a scoop of ice cream (or two) on top of banana. Add more brownie if desired and some peanuts. Drizzle with additional Creamy Caramel Sauce and top with whipped topping and cherries. Serve in foil packet.

Tips and Hints

  • Use larger bananas if you can - they're easier to work with.
  • Try mixing it up with strawberry, pineapple, chocolate or even rocky road ice cream. It's a great way to add some flavor without complicating your dessert; especially if you're camping.
  • Try some different toppings: crushed pineapple, strawberries, etc. If you want to make them all a little different, you can change them up for each person's liking.
  • And if you don't have a grill or a fire (or if you have a rainy night) a good old-fashioned indoor banana split will still be delicious (you could still use foil for your bowl)!
