For my family, baking Christmas goodies has always been a magical part of the season. Every year my husband and I pile the kids, dogs and stacks of glittery gifts into our SUV, and we drive 100 miles through the snow to the farm where I grew up.
Then my mom, sis, sister-in-law and I spend an entire afternoon making fudge, chocolate-covered truffles, sugar cookies, marshmallow bars, you name it. (Let's just say there's a lot of butter and sugar involved. Not to mention cozy slippers and some seriously off-key Christmas music.)
Even on the coldest winter day, I honestly can't imagine anywhere warmer – or happier – than our farmhouse kitchen.
But what if you don't have the time to spend all day baking cookies from scratch this year? Don't worry – you can still make home-baked holiday treats, fresh from the oven! Tastefully Simple's Holiday Baking Kit makes it easy.
Today we're featuring one of the kid-friendly favorites from the kit – Have S'more Cookies! With swirls of sweet chocolate and marshmallow crème, these cute cookies are perfect for holiday entertaining – or even a late-night snack for Santa. (And if you're having a cookie exchange with friends, you can print some fun and festive gift tags for them, too!)

How to Make the Cookies
You'll find step-by-step instructions, tips and photos below. Check out the full recipe here »
Step 1: Mix Up Your Dough
Preheat your oven to 325°F. With a large mixing bowl, combine 1 package Absolutely Almond Pound Cake Mix™ with 1 large egg, ½ cup softened butter, ½ cup graham cracker crumbs and 2½ tablespoons water.
(Note: while the original recipe calls for ¼ cup butter and 1½ tablespoons water, some reviewers had issues with the dough being too crumbly. So did I! Don't worry – just use ½ cup butter and 2½ tablespoons water like suggested above, and the dough will hold together nicely.)
Step 2: Get Rolling
Form the cookie dough into 1-inch balls, like so …
Put ½ cup graham cracker crumbs in a shallow dish, roll the cookie balls in the crumbs, and place ‘em on a baking sheet. Flatten slightly. (Tip: Line your baking sheet with parchment paper for easy clean-up. Plus, the cookies will bake more evenly, too!)
Step 3: Bake & Cool
Bake 15 minutes. Cool 5 minutes on baking sheet; remove to cooling rack and let ‘em cool completely.
Step 4: Swirl & Twirl the Topping
Gently heat ½ cup chocolate chips in the microwave. Spread the cooled cookies with 7 oz. marshmallow crème. Drizzle with melted chocolate; swirl the chocolate and marshmallow together with a toothpick. Ta-da!
Let cool and refrigerate in an airtight container. But if you start nibbling while they are still warm and melty, I won't judge. In fact, I'd suggest a cold glass of milk, too.
Here's to starting some sweet new holiday traditions of your own.
Happy baking, friends!
- Jen
Tips & Hints:
- Like I mentioned in Step 1 above, I recommend increasing the amount of softened butter and water if your cookie dough seems too crumbly and won't hold together.
- Have any Classy Chocolate Pound Cake Mix on hand? Try it in place of Absolutely Almond Pound Cake Mix™ for delicious (and extra chocolatey) s'more cookies!
- When it comes to choosing chocolate chips, we love Ghirardelli™ Milk Chocolate Chips in our house. They always melt beautifully.
