How to Use a Springform Pan

Cooking is one of my favorite things, but I’m a “basic” cook. I don’t make fancy things and I don’t use fancy equipment, just basic pots, pans and ingredients for the most part. But occasionally, I do invest in a piece of specialty equipment if I think I’ll use it enough, otherwise I’ll just borrow.

Enter the springform pan – it’s simply a pan with removable sides. I bought one many years ago, because my dear cousin, Brian, taught me not only how to bake, but also how to present cakes beautifully. He’s a caterer and way out of my cooking league. But he was right – a springform pan means that you will for sure be able to get your cake out of the pan neatly, and make something pretty for a special occasion. It also means you can make cheesecake, layered ice cream cakes, deep dish pizza and flourless chocolate cake. Yum to all!

So if you’ve never tried using one – check out our video and try a recipe! It’s easy, it’s fun AND you’ll get to eat something wonderful. Go ahead…impress someone tonight!

Enjoy!

Tips & Hints:

  • Before you fill your springform pan, flip it over and check the bottom to ensure is level and properly in the grooves. If it’s not, your filling can leak out.
  • Generally speaking, baked goods should be cool when you remove the sides of the pan. Run a knife around the edge to ensure it’s loose, then just pop the sides off.
  • I highly recommend my friend Joy’s recipe for Sour Cream Coffee Cake – it is fantastic!
  • Here’s the link to the Brownie Birthday Cake recipe in the video – honestly, this is so easy and so impressive!
