Margherita Flatbread Pizza

Summer's here and that means lots of vegetables in the garden and at the Farmers' Market. Time to whip up one of my favorites: Margherita Flatbread Pizza. It takes just a few, simple ingredients and no time at all to make. 

Thanks to our Bountiful Beer Bread Mix®, preparing the crust is quick and painless. The Mama Mia™ Marinara Sauce Mix makes a rich, flavorful sauce that highlights the toppings. Your family and friends will be impressed - and will clamor for more!

Preheat oven to 375°. Set aside ¼ cup Bountiful Beer Bread Mix. Combine remaining bread mix, water and olive oil. Mix until soft dough forms.

Set aside and let rest 15 minutes. Sprinkle reserved bread mix on a clean work surface. Place the dough on work surface and press down. Roll the dough very thin (about 1/8-inch thick) using a rolling pin.

Place on a greased baking sheet, prick with a fork all over to prevent crust from puffing while baking. Bake for 9-11 minutes until lightly browned. 

Stir together Mama Mia™ Marinara Sauce Mix and crushed tomatoes. Spoon mixture over crust. Top with cheese and sliced tomatoes.

Bake for 3-5 minutes or until cheese melts. Remove from oven and top with basil.

Tips and Hints

  • Be sure to use fresh mozzarella. (It comes in balls.) It adds so much more flavor to your pizza.
  • Poke your crust with a fork before baking. This will keep it from forming bubbles.
  • If you prefer smooth pizza sauce, mix the Mama Mia™ Marinara Sauce Mix with tomato sauce rather than crushed tomatoes.
  • This makes a great main dish or appetizer!
