National Watermelon Day

It isn’t summer without a big juicy watermelon, and almost everyone loves it. Made up of almost 92% water, the succulent fruit is favored by children and adults worldwide.

Did you know that watermelon is an ancient food? Historians have found evidence of cultivation as far back as 4,000 years ago. Many varieties of the melon are grown in warm parts of the world, including deserts. I don’t know about you, but if I was stuck in a desert I’d want to be stuck in one that grew watermelons.

Since the watery melon has its own day, we should celebrate with some amazing watermelon-inspired recipes! A few of my favorites are below.
