Tuesday Tip: Perfect Patties

At my age, I don’t have that many "Eureka!" moments anymore, but every time I have one…it is so awesome! There was the time I realized that gas gauges in cars now have a little arrow that points to the side of the car where the gas tank is. Eureka! I don’t have to look like a dork every time I put gas in a rental car now!

And did you know that if you spray your measuring cup or spoon with cooking spray before you measure honey … it pours right out? Why did it take me so long to learn that one?

My most recent Eureka moment came when I discovered that all you need for making perfect hamburger patties is the lid from a peanut butter jar. For reals! I have multiple expensive and sometimes complex patty makers in my kitchen and nothing works better than a lid. Want proof? Check out the video … then try one of these fantastic recipes:

With this great hack … I actually look forward to making patties now!


Tips & Hints

  • Wet your hands with water before handling ground meat mixtures; that way, it won’t stick to your hands.
  • Start checking out your jar lids – they come in a lot of diameters and depths. Save the ones that make the perfect size patties for you and your family.
  • It’s so easy to freeze patties with this method! Just line the lid with plastic wrap, pop in the meat mixture, then remove the patty and wrap it up in the plastic wrap. Put all the patties into a resealable freezer bag, and pull out as many as you need when it’s time to grill.
