Wahoo! Sausage Corn Chowder Recipe

  • 8 ounces smoked sausage, sliced, slices quartered
  • 1 poblano chile pepper, chopped
  • 4 cups frozen potatoes O'Brien
  • 2 tablespoons Wahoo Chili Seasoning
  • 4 cups 2% milk
  • 1 (14.75 ounce) can cream-style corn
  • Cooked and crumbled bacon, shredded Cheddar cheese, sliced green onions, optional

  1. In large saucepan or Dutch oven over medium-high heat, sauté sausage slices and peppers 4-5 minutes or until peppers are softened.
  2. Stir in potatoes and Wahoo! Chili Seasoning. Sauté 2-3 minutes. Stir in remaining ingredients except for garnishes.
  3. Bring to a simmer; reduce heat to medium-low and simmer 10 minutes, stirring frequently. Serve garnished with bacon, cheese and green onions, if desired.
Makes 6 servings.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super simple dinner! I was surprised, but my entire family loved this "chow-dah"! I changed it a bit and used a can of whole kernel corn instead of creamed corn and used 2 cups of beef broth for half of the milk (my teenager had drank the rest of it!) but it was still thick enough for the spoon to stand up! To be able to make a "real" dinner in about 30 minutes - including prep - is exactly what we needed and we will definitely be making this again during our long New England winters :)

I made a couple changes thanks to fellow reviewers - i only used 2 tsps (not tbsp as called for of Wahoo! Chili Mix. I swapped one cup of the potatoes for a cup of corn. My additional suggestion is to make sure your poblano pepper & sausage is sauté to your preference before adding all the other ingredients because it only took an additional 5 mins to warm & thicken before it was perfect for serving.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Wahoo! Sausage & Corn Chowder I substituted 1 c. Magic Chicken for the sausage, omitted the Poblano Chili Pepper and added additional milk to thin out a bit. Too spicy for us, but otherwise tasted really good. Next time I make it I will also cut the Chili seasoning down to 1 tsp. or omit it all together.

We used a smoked garlic kielbasa for the recipe and it was delicious. My six year old even loved this soup! We did add a little extra milk to thin it out a little more. We had crumbled bacon, shredded cheddar, and sour cream for possible toppings so everyone could customize their bowls. I highly recommend making the Mini Onion Monkey Bread along with the Wahoo! Sausage Corn Chowder. Delicious!
