Perfect on a cold night!

I just went to visit friends on North Carolina and I took this soup and made them dinner one night. We had been out all day in the brisk Fall weather looking at the beautiful leaves. When we got home I fixed the soup, some beer bread and topped dinner off with Nana's apple cake! They loved it all! I think I am going to get invited to their home more often!

Great tasting and easy to make. I add some bacon bacon and extra cheese. I saw someone say they used chicken broth instead of water. Making this for dinner tonight will try it with chicken broth.

I made a variation by adding 8 ounces of cream cheese. Not only did it serve more but thickened the soup. You can also add cooked potatoes also. It's will be a party favorite!
